Who is eligible for NDIS Support?
NDIS Overview
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has been developed to support and empower people with disability. The aim of the scheme is to facilitate opportunities for disabled people to live their life to the fullest.
The scheme is Australia-wide and eligible NSW citizens can now apply for access. The NSW Government will assist participants in accessing the supports they require.
The NDIS determines who is eligible and how funds will be allocated to individuals. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will work with eligible people around accessing, planning and implementing support services.
The first step you need to take is to find out if you meet the eligibility requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply to become an NDIS participant you must
- Have a permanent and significant disability that prevents you in doing your day to day activities
- Be an Australian citizen, or the holder of a permanent visa
- Be aged between 7 and 65 years old.
The NDIA will work with you to confirm your eligibility for the NDIS. You may need to provide evidence that you have a disability which is permanent and impacts your daily functioning. A support letter from your health professional or specialist may be required to support your application.
If you do not meet the access requirements for the NDIS
The NDIS connects people with disability, their families and carers (including people who are not NDIS participants) to disability and mainstream supports in their community.
